Art Week 2018

Updated: Sep 2, 2018

Guest exhibitor and BP Portrait Award Artist

Tyndale Arts Week is excited to announce a very special event, An evening with Sophie Ploeg, during which she will discuss her paintings and inspiration.

Sophie is a Dutch artist based in Thornbury, who specialises in portraiture and drapery. Her paintings of lace show her love of detail and history. As a trained art historian it is no surprise that much of her inspiration comes from art history, especially the Dutch and English 17th century.

She has exhibited her work widely, such as at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the National Portrait Gallery, London for the BP Portrait Award and the Pastel Society. Sophie was awarded the BP Portrait Award Travel Scholarship in 2014.

Sophie will explain and show how art history influences her work, how she got so involved in painting lace, and what her painting process looks like. The talk coincides with an exhibition of Sophie's paintings at Kingshill House in Dursley.

The exhibition will be open during the evening talk and will continue during the exhibition weekend of Tyndale Arts Week (5, 6 & 7 October 2018)

Tickets are limited and are available via the link below

Tyndale Arts Week is excited to announce a brand new collaboration with young, budding artists.

Local schools have been invited to participate in an art project to encourage children to get involved with the Arts Week.

Referencing the local history of the area, Children will be asked to paint a sheep in the style of a famous artist. Each child will create their own designs on paper and some of these will be chosen by their teachers to be painted onto the cut out sheep.

In the week preceding the show the painted sheep will be exhibited at various venues around Dursley town. Then, during the weekend of the exhibition the flock will come together to “graze” in the grounds of Kingshill House before returning to their home school to live out their days.
